Curriculum |
We use We Can Early Learning Curriculum that is a research based comprehensive preschool curriculum which aligns with California Preschool Foundations and California Kindergarten standards. We also use Preschool GLAD: Guided Language Acquisition Design to create a rich environment of language, ideas and concepts. The Glad design fosters a success based interactive environment t that stresses on cross-cultural respect and sensitivity. The GLAD model creates rich language for our English learners. It also teaches preschoolers to participate and learn strategies for creating rich language on a daily basis.

The program is designed to help children make a smooth and successful transition into trnasitional kindergarten and kindergarten. We utilize the Desired Results Development Profile (DRDP) and Preschool Learning Foundations to assess each child in these areas. Specific goals are set for each child, based on the child's individual developmental needs. Teacher/Parent conferences will be scheduled to discuss the child's needs and improvement plans.
Program Philosophy
We believe that a quality preschool program should provide a child-oriented environment with materials easily accessible to encourage independence in making choices. The materials and interpersonal environment should support each child's cultural and linguistic background and focus on acceptance of diversity. We believe that hands-on, interactive activities help to meet the child's physical, cognitive and social-emotional, creative and language needs through a balanced and integrated curriculum that focuses on the whole child.
FVSD Preschools are committed to quality early childhood education. We believe that nurturing, caring adults who accept each child and support his/her uniqueness can help children feel good about themselves and school. We hire qualified staff. All staff hold the appropriate credential/permit as required by the State of California. New employees are provided with an orientation to guide them to understand how District policies relate tot heir respective job description. We support continuous staff growth by assessing the needs of staff and providing professional development activities to enhance their growth. Our staff members are evaluated annually. We have sound internal communications mechanisms which include e-mail, phone and newsletter to provide staff with information necessary to carry out their respective duties. Parents are welcome to visit the classroom. If you have special talents, hobbies, cultural or career interests that could be shared with the children, please contact the preschool staff. Parents may also volunteer to help with special activities and field trips. Please note that siblings are not permitted to attend classroom field trips. The Fountain Valley School District has an "Open Door Policy" welcoming parents of currently enrolled children at any time during operating hours. Open communication between parents, staff and administration is very important to the program. Staff at each site should be able to assist you with any concerns hat you may have. Please do not hesitate to speak with a staff member or program Director. Every attempt will be made to solve any problem that may arise in a timely manner. However, not all problems can be solved to the satisfaction of any one parent. goals
The goal of FVSD Preschools is to ensure that all children are making progress int eh domains of physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development. We use he Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), a tool developed by the California Department of Education, Child Development Division, to assess the development of children. Children are assessed within 60 days of enrollment and every six months thereafter. Parents' input is a necessary component of this assessment. The assessment is also used to plan and conduct age and developmentally appropriate for the children.
A parent survey is sent annually to all parents for their input regarding our program. Along with the parent survey results a self-review is completed and goals are established for improvement of the program |
